Digital Curator/Metadata Specialist

I. Narrative
RTI International seeks a Digital Curator/Metadata Specialist to develop and maintain
ontologies and content management for the recently-established RTI Automated
Information Retrieval System (AIRS). AIRS integrates a search engine with a
taxonomy and ontology manager to index information across the institute and
generate and enhanced, interactive search interface. The successful candidate will
play a leading role in developing the primary digital repository schema, structure, and
workflow for this institute-wide project.

II. Responsibilites
A. Assist with the identification of ontologies for use at RTI
B. Propose ways to classify information in preparation for fast search capabilities
C. Identify strategies for growing and managing ontologies organically across RTI
D. Propose ways to enforce effective data governance policies across RTI
E. Establish relevant metadata policies, procedures, and workflows for digital
project
F. Explore, adapt, and implement emerging digital repository technologies

III. Requirements
A. Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited
program
B. Professional understanding and knowledge of non-MARC metadata, taxonomy,
and controlled vocabulary schemas and standards
C. Familiarity with current and emerging digital repository technologies and best
practices
D. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
E. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
F. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
G. Attention to detail

IV. Reporting structure statement


The Digital Curator/Metadata Specialist reports to both the Technical Project Leader
and the Manager of Library and Information Services and works closely with the
Automation Information Retrieval System (AIRS) team.
