Family Vocabulary Warm-Up

Jumbled letters
• Before the lesson write the following six letters – m y f a i l – on separate Post-it Notes.
Use the marker to write large letters. Put the six Post-its on one half sheet of paper. Put the paper on
the board.
• Ask students to put the letters in a different order to form a word.
• Elicit ‘family’.
• Tell students each pair will have different words with jumbled letters.
• Have different sheets with jumbled letters on Post-it Notes. Give each pair a different
sheet with jumbled letters of one word.
• Suggested words: daughter, son, wedding, honeymoon, sisters, brother, parents

• Tell pairs to find the word, check with the teacher, jumble them up again and pass on to
another pair.
