hyponatremia, and burn victims, it is
isotonic,( same osmolarity as our body
fluids

Replacement & maintenance of fluid &
electrolytes.

Restores the blood volume rapidly.

The first fluid used when hypovolemia is
severe enough to threaten the adequacy of
blood circulation and has long been
believed to be the safest fluid to give
quickly in large volumes.

these solutions provide sources of
water and electrolytes. Their
electrolyte content resembles that of
the principal ionic constituents of
normal plasma and the solutions
therefore are suitable for parenteral
replacement of extracellular losses of
fluid and electrolytes.
