A Rock and Roll

Themed Birthday Party

Appetizer Display
I wouldn’t go crazy on making appetizers. If you are going
to decorate the party space, you will have enough to do
the day of the party. Here are a few no-cook options.

Options:
-Freddie Mercury’s favorite food was Indian according to THIS WEBSITE. I would
order an appetizer platter from an Indian restaurant since Indian recipes aren’t
that easy to find and use unusual ingredients.
- Appetizers on Skewers or in individual cups. I especially love the look of
appetizers on skewers. They make a pretty display and are easy to eat.

skewers.aspx

No recipe link available here. Just thread melon, prosciutto and cheese onto
skewers.
No recipe link available, just use premade cocktail sauce, shrimp and plastic
shot glasses. You can buy them at Party City.

Custom Cocktail!
There are 2 options that I think would be perfect for this
theme:
1) Freddie Mercury Cocktail-
Yes – there is actually a Freddie Mercury Cocktail out there! The only
caveat – it’s a SHOT, not a cocktail. It uses Crown Royale and
something called Sour Puss, which is a brand of raspberry liqueur. If
they don’t carry that specific brand, I bet they will carry another kind
of raspberry liqueur. I think you can have the bar serve it as a shot or
have them make it into a cocktail. Add some club soda or some other
filler to make it a complete cocktail. The bartender will know what to
do. Make a sign for the bar that says “Try The Freddie Mercury!” (or
something like that, so people know it’s available.

2) Serve Freddie Mercury’s favorite drinks -

According to THIS WEBSITE, champagne and iced vodka were Freddie’s
favorite cocktails. If you go with this option, print a sign for the bar
that let’s everyone know that these were his favorite drinks.

*For an extra decoration, make custom drink stirrers! Buy stirrers or

straws from a party supply store and print small pictures of Freddie
Mercury or even pictures of the birthday boy to tape or glue on the top
of the stirrer.
Décor
It would be fab and totally appropriate to decorate with
plastic records and tons of Queen photos. Sources for
records and Queen photos are below. I have tons of ideas
for how to display the Queen photos. I really like the
idea of using black as a base color with bright colors as
the accent colors. Get black tablecloths, napkins,
utensils, etc. See below for some ideas.

The above records are very reasonably priced. There are endless possibilities for
using these records. Here are just a few:
- Thread a piece of black ribbon or clear wire through the records and string
them around the room like a banner or a garland. Drape the banner over
the front of the food table.
- Use them as place settings at each table! Put them underneath clear
plastic plates as a “charger” so people can see through to the records!
- Hang them from the ceiling individually.

I also found the above serving bowls shaped like records. These would be
fun to serve chips/pretzels/nuts in.
Queen Images

The best and most economical source of Queen images is just to Google
Image “Queen logo, Queen band, Freddie Mercury, Queen Records” etc.
There are other sources for professional photos of Queen which I will provide
below, but they can get pricey. If you have a color printer, I suggest
printing out the images yourself to save yourself the money!

Here are some suggestions for how to decorate with Queen photos:
- Buy cheap picture frames at the Dollar Store/Walmart/wherever. Try to
buy black frames to keep with the theme, if you can’t find black, spray
paint them black. Don’t be afraid of spray paint – it’s incredibly easy to
use. You can buy it at Michael’s or any craft store. Place framed photos
around the party.
- Fill glass containers with black tissue paper or scrunchy shredded paper
(also found at craft stores). Buy bamboo skewers and tape Queen photos
to the top of the skewers. Stick Skewers in the containers and you have
instant centerpieces for each table. (Let me know if you don’t understand
this – I promise it’s really easy, just kind of hard to explain.)
- Print out pictures of Queen’s logo and cut out in a small circle shape (or
use a craft puncher to easily punch out). This forms “confetti” that you can
scatter on the tables. You can also do this with funny pictures of Dave’s
face or Freddie Mercury’s face.
- The other option for table decorations is to have each table be a famous
Queen song title. I.E. One table could be “Another One Bites The Dust.”
Type out the song title in a fun font, print it out and frame it.

Café Press has a ton of Queen photos. They are all 8 by 10, so they are pretty
large.

Party Favors
Tons of cute options for favors! I originally thought of
ITunes gift cards, but the smallest denomination I
found was Ten Dollars, which I think is too much for you
to buy for each person!

These magnets are pretty expensive to buy for each guest. My suggestion
would be to go to Vistaprint.com and make your own. You can upload your own
picture or design. It’s super cheap.

Must Do Activity
Rockband must be played at this party! I am sure the
bar has a TV, see if you can set it up at the bar. If you
don’t have Rockband, check with your friends. Someone
will have it! Rockband has a lot of Queen songs.

Cake!
Send your local bakery a picture like the ones below. They
should be able to replicate it for your cake.

all that. Also, if you need help ordering the
Vistaprint magnets let me know. Finally, definitely
order any of the online items ASAP so you don’t have
to pay for rushed shipping. The only thing I ask of
you is to make sure to take plenty of pictures of the
décor and party theme so I can feature this party on
my blog! Call me or email me with ANY
