SYMBIOSIS SETS UP THE FIRST QUALITY EDUCATION IN INDIA

A Seminar on “Quality Assurance in Education” was held at Symbiosis Centre for

Distance Learning on 15th Feb 2009. The Chief Guest for the seminar was Shri
Girdhar Gyani, Secretary General, Quality Council of India. Dr S.B.Mujumdar
President of Symbiosis & Chancellor of Symbiosis International University presided
over the seminar. Other eminent speakers included Dr Mrs. Shakuntala Katre,
Former Consultant with NAAC, Mr Partho Banerjee, GM, Tata Quality Management
Services & Dr. Arun Nigvekar, Former Chairman - UGC.

Dr Katre spoke on Quality Standards in higher education & distance education. Mr

Partho Banerjee presented the Malcolm Baldrige Model of Educational Excellence and
Dr. Arun Nigvekar spoke on Quality Focus in Higher Education.

The Chief Guest Shri Girdhar Gyani highlighted the growing importance of quality
especially in education sector. He applauded Symbiosis for the initiatives taken in
Quality Assurance.

Dr. S.B. Mujumdar announced the establishment of a “Symbiosis Quality Excellence

Award in Education”, which will be given to an individual or educational institution in
recognition for outstanding work in the area of Quality Assurance that has benefited
others the society at large.

Ms Swati Mujumdar, Director SCDL announced the launch of a “Quality Forum for
Education” – a purely academic initiative. The objective of the forum is to learn,
develop and evolve together as an educational community and share best practices
for the ultimate benefit of the students & the faculty. This forum is the first of its
 kind in India. The objectives of the forum will be to research & evolve new quality
standards, protocols & quality models for the education section. The forum will also
arrange seminars, workshops & training programs, in quality for the benefit of all
educational institutes.
