Rock up to the Library and Get Loud

National Youth Week celebrates young people for the positive contribution they make to
their communities. The theme of this year’s National Youth Week, which will run from
Saturday 10 April to Sunday 18 April, is ‘Live it Now’.

Local young performers are set to ‘Get Loud’ at Yarra Plenty Regional Library’s Diamond Valley
branch on Sunday 11 April from 2.00pm until 4.30pm as part of National Youth Week.

Now in its fourth successful year, the Get Loud library events celebrate local young talent and
are becoming a staple on the community calendar. Young people are invited to come along to
the event to have fun and show their support for local artists.

The event is a collaboration between Yarra Plenty Regional Library and Shire of Nillumbik
Youth Services, and features local bands, DJ's and artists, open mike, dance, and other exciting
workshops to engage young people.

YPRL Youth Services Coordinator Daniela Gullaci said the event promises to be lively and loud.
“The aim of this event is to celebrate and recognise the contributions of young people in our
community. Get Loud involves young people in the planning and implementation process, so
that an event will be delivered for young people and by young people,” she said.

YPRL Chairperson and Nillumbik Shire Councillor, Lewis Brock said the library is eager to host
events like Get Loud.

"The events help young people across the region to develop their skills and become more
connected to the local community. It also provides young people with something safe and fun to
do in an area where there’s not a lot for them to do.

"We’re excited to provide venues where young people can engage positively with their
community, showcase their talents and have a voice in the library," Cr Brock said.

This event is supported by the Victorian Government and beyondblue: the national depression
initiative (www.beyondblue.org.au) Beyondblue has teamed up with National Youth Week
organisers across Australia to raise awareness of depression, anxiety and related drug and
alcohol problems among young people.

The event kicks off at 2.00pm on Sunday 11 April and runs until 4.30pm at Diamond Valley
Library, Civic Drive, Greensborough. Prizes to be won include a $50 Greensborough Plaza
shopping voucher. For more information about 'Get Loud' at Diamond Valley Library call 9401
