    A switch probe is a spring contact probe and receptacle combination that is normally open but closes after a designated travel. Switch probes are commonly used in cable harness testing to verify the correct location and retention force of terminals in connectors. They can also verify the presence of nonconductive components. There are separate current paths, one from the plunger tip to tail that is normally open and one from the plunger tip to the outside of the receptacle that is always closed. Switch probes come in different sizes with varying specifications.
