Move-In Guide Packing Check List


To protect the health and safety of everyone living in or visiting the residence halls, we
cannot permit some items in the buildings. Below are some helpful lists to help you prepare
for your move to Bloomington.

You Will Need to Bring:

• Alarm Clock*
• Bathrobe, Shower Shoes, Towels & Washcloths, Pillow, Bed Linens, and Blankets (Extra-
long twin size sheets are recommended.)
• Coffee Mug, Drinking Cups, Dishes & Cutlery for Snacks
• Clothes Hangers
• Surge Protectors and Extension Cords (LCDI technology strongly recommended)
• Hair Dryer*
• Laundry Basket/Bag and Detergent
• Personal Prescription Medications
• Personal Toiletry Items & Small Plastic Bucket to Carry Them
• Poster Putty for Hanging Decorations
• Seasonal Clothing
• Small First Aid Kit
• Telephone
• Umbrella & Rainwear

You May Want to Bring:

• Bicycle - with a GOOD Lock


• Cleaning Supplies
• Computer* (See http://uits.iu.edu/page/amdt for more information)
• Deck of Cards and Board Games
• Electric Fan*
• Flashlight
• Inexpensive Camera
• Iron*
• Microwave*
• Radio, TV, VCR/DVD, CD Player*
• Refrigerator* (Size not to exceed 3 cubic feet)
• Snack Food & Beverages
• Small Sewing Kit
• Sport & Recreation Equipment

Please Leave These Things at Home:

• Alcohol Containers of any kind (empty or full)


• Combustible Liquids
• Electric Open-Coil Heaters or any Appliance with Exposed Burners
• Firearms, BB Guns, Paintball Guns, Pellet Guns, Sling Shots and Weapons
• Fireworks
• Halogen Lights and Lamps
• Incense and Incense Burners
• Pets (Fish are the only pets permitted)
• Power Tools
• Smoking Devices such as hookahs, pipes, etc.
• Sun Lamps and Tanning Beds
• Toaster Ovens, Stoves and Camping Stoves, Charcoal and Propane Grills, Hot Plates &
Immersion Coils for Heating Water
• Waterbeds

*All electrical appliances must be: (1) Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed; (2) equipped with
thermostatic controls when appropriate; and (3) rated at 700 watts (6 AMPS) or less.
