Adjectives and Everything

About Them.

Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation by: Eric Han

Definition of an Adjective

An adjective is a part of speech and modifies nouns or

pronouns, often giving the noun or pronoun more
description and meaning.
Examples of Adjectives

-The powerful man smashed the board in half.

-The fit marine sprinted across the endless field.
-The tall building consisted of 70 floors.
-The obese woman needed serious medical attention.
-The swift tennis ball struck the wall with a large amount of force.

These underlined adjectives modify the nouns that come after them in some ways. The first example says that the
man smashed the board in the half. The adjective modifies the man by saying that he’s powerful, giving the reader an
idea of how he smashed it.
These words are all adjectives, that have the ability to modify or change a noun. By adding
the adjective “big” behind the noun “ball”, the ball would now be considered “big”. If you
add the adjective “little” behind the noun “ball”, it would now be considered a small ball.
Adjectives have the ability to change the “properties” of a noun.
Colors can also be used as adjectives, and can be used to change the appearance of a
noun in a sentence. If I stated in a sentence that the sweatshirt was orange, people would
visualize an orange colored sweatshirt. However, if I stated that the jacket was black
colored, people would visualize a completely different colored sweatshirt.
