1 GENERAL ELIGIBILITY
1.1 Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / M.Sc in Science of this
University or any other qualification recognized as equivalent thereto in the fields of
study notified from time to time by this University. Specific Educational Qualifications
are given in Clause 2.
1.2 A minimum of 55% percent marks/CGPA of 5.5 on a 10 point scale in the qualifying
examination (50 percent marks or CGPA of 5.0 on a 10 point scale, in the case of SC/ST
candidates).
For M.A (English) Degree holders including SC/ST applicants a minimum of 55 percent
marks is necessary.

2.0 EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

3. M.S. (By Research). PROGRAMMES

Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria as in Clause 1 & 2 are eligible to apply for
M.S. (By Research). Programme.

Full-time M.S. (By Research) Programme:

3.1.1 Candidates under Full time shall do research work in this University and shall be
available during the working hours for curricular, co-curricular and related activities.
3.1.2 Candidates in employment, who want to pursue Full-time studies should be sponsored by
their employer & should avail leave for the research period and should get formally
relieved from their duty to join the research programme.
3.1.3 Foreign nationals sponsored by Government of India on any exchange programme and
who satisfy the eligibility conditions as per the regulations, are eligible for Full time
study.

3.2 Part Time M.S. (By Research) Programme

The following categories of candidates are eligible to apply for part-time programme.
3.2.1 Full-time teachers of the constituent Colleges/Colleges affiliated to this University as in
Annexure – IV.

3.2.2 Candidates working in the projects undertaken from State/Central/ Quasi Government
and totally funded through the projects in the constituent colleges/affiliated colleges of
this University. The Principal coordinator of such projects shall be a recognized
supervisor of this University and the candidate shall register for Research programme
under such supervisor only. The candidate should be employed in the project for the
minimum period of the research programme (clause 10). Part employments in different
spells or in different projects are not permitted. The department where the project is
undertaken should be a recognized research centre of this University.
3.2.3 Candidates working in Industrial units or R & D Departments/Labs/Units of
Government/Quasi Government or any other research laboratories which are recognized
by the university to have collaborative research with the University and sponsored by the
respective employer/Organization.

4.0 MODE OF SELECTION

Selection to the research programme will be based on the performance in the test and
interview.

5.0 DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME

The minimum duration of the programme Full time in 2 years.
The minimum duration of the programme for part time in 3 years
The maximum duration of the programme for Full time/ Part time is 4 years.

6.0 COURSE WORK
A maximum of eight courses at P.G level are to be undertaken including one compulsory
mathematics course during the study, apart form the research work.
7.0 FACULTY FOR OF THE AWARD OF THE DEGREE:
The place and area of research shown in Annexure I. The M.S. degree will be awarded
in the Faculty shown in Annexure II and will be based on the qualifying degree.
8.0 DETAILS OF FEE TO BE PAID

University for the respective Colleges to be paid at the time of admission.

8.3 Payable every Semester:
As in 7.2 (III) at the intended date of payment, as notified by the University, semester fee
is to be paid, till the thesis is submitted.
8.4 Examination fee for Course Works
8.4.1 A maximum of eight courses at PG level are to be studied and examinations are to be
undertaken. Examination fee @ Rs.300/- per course work to be paid during examinations.

8.5 SYNOPSIS FEE (PAYABLE ATE THE TIME OF SYNOPSIS SUBMISSION)

8.5.1 Synopsis Fee : Rs. 6,000/-

9.0 DOCUMENTS TO BE ENCLOSED WITH THE APPLICATION

9.1 Xerox copies of certificates for proof of qualification, age and community of the
applicant, duly attested.
9.2 Xerox copies of curriculum, mark sheets, certificate from the institution regarding
mode of conduct of classes and evaluation, syllabus of courses undertaken, in the case
of candidates awarded degree other than the universities listed in Annexure III.
(One more copy should sent directly to the “The Director (Academic Courses),
Anna University” for obtaining course equivalency).
9.3 Xerox copy of employment appointment order / project appointment order
9.4 A brief one page write-up on the Research topic chosen.
9.5 Four self-addressed covers stamped to the value of Rs.10/-(Rupees ten only) each.

Note: ST & SC candidates should produce the original community certificate at the time
of admission for claiming any concession.

10.0 SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

Completed application form and data sheet (with all enclosures securely stitched to it)
should be sent to The Director (Research), Anna University, Chennai – 25 so as to reach on or
before 30.04.2009 along with a demand draft drawn in favour of “The Director (Research),
Anna University” payable at Chennai - 25 for Rs.600/- (Rupees Six hundred only) for general
category or Rs.300/- (Rupees three hundred only) for Tamil Nadu SC/ST candidates for
processing the application. The application fee is non-refundable.

Application received after the due date or without due demand draft will be
summarily rejected.

11.0 Hostel Accommodation is not available.
