Awaiting the Rain

A cold dark evening

a moist breeze blowing

the trees swaying with the wind

the leaves shaking with excitement

heavy clouds fill the twilight sky

the moon and stars hiding

a single drop falls

shattering as it hits the dry earth

a circle of wetness on the heated ground

the clouds weep with joy

upon seeing the trees grow greener

the earth regaining gleam

and the wide smile of a lone girl

sitting on the front steps

looking up at the vast sky

awaiting the rain.
