What is a Verb?

A verb or compound verb asserts something about the


subject of the sentence and express actions, events, or
states of being. The verb or compound verb is the critical
element of the predicate of a sentence.

Examples:
1. I am running in the park.
2. I am driving to school.
3. I am walking home.
What is a Linking Verb?

A Linking Verb is a verb that connects or (links) a verb to


a noun or an adjective

Examples:
1. I was cold.
2. The baby looked happy.
3. George Washington became the first President.
What is an Action verb?

An Action Verb is a verb which contains action in the


sentence.

. Examples:
1. My grumpy old English teacher smiled at the plate of
cold meatloaf.
2. The daredevil cockroach splashed into Sarah’s soup.
3. Theo's overworked computer exploded in a spray of
sparks.
