• “Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen
such things? Shall the earth be made to bring
forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at
once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she
brought forth her children.
Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to
bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to
bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy
God.” Isa.66:8-9
• This is an aspect of prayer called travailing
prayer we need to see.
• Travailing prayer gives “birth” to something.
• It is born of dissatisfaction:
– Hannah 1 Sam.1:10 And she was in bitterness of
soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore
• It is born of desperation:
– Daniel—Dan.10:2 “In those days I Daniel was
mourning three full weeks.”
• It has the vision of the will of God. V. 7
• This is the ‘gap’ principle. V.11
• This is where prayer actually is birthed
through us to CREATE the future. V.12
 This prayer shaped the nation and impacted a
whole generation for God.
• Travailing prayer is like having a baby;
– It takes time
– It involves pain
– It always ends in joy
– “as soon as Zion travails—she bringeth forth”
