Chapter 1: Introduction

A. Background of the study

Our topic is about applying colour schemes and colour psychology on studio type
condominiums with the concept of green design. We have chosen this topic because green
design helps people to appreciate nature and its beauty, thus helping them be aware of the
environment and learn to take good care of it by doing the 3R’s which is reduce, reuse and
recycle. The topic’s focus is on our chosen concept, but we choose to apply it on a studio type
condominium, because it is known that workers and students mostly live on studio type
condominiums. The amount of stress they get from work, studies and socialization affects their
attitude, thoughts and even their routines, and even sometimes they could careless of anything
around them especially on the environment by making noise pollution, improper waste disposal
etc. Of course, they need something to help them relax. Their relaxation takes place on the
condominium; they can feel relaxed at least by giving their place a welcoming and comfortable
look that can make them be aware of their surroundings. This can be done, by changing the
interior’s colour scheme into warm and soothing colours, not too bright, and not too dull.
Another way is to use recycled materials as an accessory or even furniture, then arrange or
decorate them into something that can look homely and can remind a person about nature’s
beauty.

B. Statement of the problem

 Colour

 Colour scheme

 Colour psychology

 Significance and relation to the given motif

 Green Design Concept

 Reduce

 Reuse

 Recycle

 Beautification

 Nature design

 Small Spaces

 Traffic flow

 Furniture arrangement

B1. Research Questions

 What are the colour schemes that are applied in a condo unit that can be
shown with colour psychology?

 How to apply the colour schemes on Green Design?

 How and When to apply the Green design on a Condo unit?

 How to enhance the traffic flow in a given space?

 What recyclable materials can be possibly used to make accessories and

furniture?
B2. Research Objectives

 To give a feeling of warmth and relaxation.

 To help a person have concerns about the environment.

 To beautify not only an interior, but also the surroundings by means of doing
the 3R's.

C. Scope and limitations of the study

In this study, we gathered information about interiors with green design application,
colour schemes and moods that it can bring, recyclable materials and what materials
can be made with it, ways to maximize a space and improve traffic flow, organized
furniture arrangements, and how nature can be shown through decoration colour and
arrangement and how it will affect a person. However, we did not study other problems
related to the study, like colour composition, where to get the recyclable materials and
statistics about people’s ways of dumping waste, types of spaces, and furniture and
ornamentation periods.

D. Significance of the study

The study would be a great help to most office workers and students, this can simply
help by looking at the appearance, once an interior is well organized and soothing, and
it may help a person to relax, lessen their stress, and maintain cleanliness and give
concerns, not only on an interior, but to their environment also. The user will be able to
use the space oh his/her room with ease, comfort and be calm as he or she moves on it.
