Parent Curriculum Guide

Dear Parents,
Welcome back to school! We are excited about what we have planned for your
child. We hope you find this curriculum guide helpful! It is designed to give you an
overview of what your child will be learning this month. We welcome your feedback as
you use the Parent Curriculum Guide throughout the year.

This month in reading: This month in reading students

will be working on the importance of looking back on hat
we do and think when we read so that we can come out
an understanding of the text. They will be working on
building stamina and reading in more volume.

Reading at home: Students should read each night for at

least 30 minutes. Encourage your child to entertain
themselves by reading books. Getting into the habit of
reading everyday has benefits that last well into
adulthood.

This month in writing: The students will be focusing on writing memoirs. In this unit of
study they will be learning the difference between personal narrative and memoirs. They
will address topics such as the relationship with a sibling, peer pressure or summer camp.

This month in math: This month in math the students will be working on arrays,
addition and subtraction fact families, multiplication fact families, factor pairs, division,
divisibility rules, prime numbers, composite numbers, number line patterns, squared
numbers, unsquared numbers, and factor strings.
