Is divided into THREE main sections :-

Question 1 – 10 (10 marks)
(suggested allocated time : 15 mins)

FORMAT (Question 1 – 10) (10 marks)
a) Two different types of text will be given
b) Ten comprehension questions will be asked
c) Objective questions (Optional answers)
d) 10 marks will be awarded
e) Circle the correct answers (1 per
question)
f ) No writing necessary

(suggested allocated time : 15 mins)

FORMAT (Question 11 – 20)
* Divided into three types
i. Question 11-13 (03 marks)
- 3 situational pictures with incomplete
dialogues given
- 7 optional answers given (with brackets)
- fill in brackets with the number of the
picture that you think is perfect with the
answer
- to test Social Expressions skills

Dissection : Question 11-13
a) Each picture shows different situation.
b) Must have ‘speech bubbles’ (at least 2),
one blank.
c) Each picture numbered (11,12,13)
d) 7 optional answers are given usually in
sentence forms (questions, suggestions,
preference, argument,etc)
e) Each answer comes with a blank bracket
at the end. The bracket is to be filled
with your chosen answers.

Suggested Tips : Question 11-13
a) Read all answers given first
b) Study pictures carefully for clues
c) Check which speech bubble is the 1st
speaker
d) Look out for ‘common traps’ – eg. if there
is a policeman in the picture, it doesn’t
have to have the word ‘policeman’ in the
answers given
e) No need to write in speech
bubbles

ii. Question 14-15 (02 marks)
- 2 dialogues given
- 6 optional answers given (with brackets)
- fill in brackets with the number of the
dialogue that you think is perfect with the
answer
- to test Vocabulary skills

Dissection : Question 14-15
a) Each dialogue discusses certain topic
b) Must have ‘speech bubbles’ (at least 2)
c) Each dialogue numbered (14,15)
d) 6 optional answers are given usually in
word forms (usually certain specific
topic)
e) Each answer comes with a blank bracket
at the end. The bracket is to be filled
with your chosen answers.

a) Read all answers given first
b) Read dialogues carefully for clues
c) Check which speech bubble is the 1st
speaker

iii. Question 16-20 (05 marks)
- 1 picture of a situation is shown
- 1 incomplete passage given (usually text
describing events from the picture shown)
- 5 blanks to replace missing words in the
passage
- Each blank are numbered
- Pupils must write in blanks with
correct/suitable words

Dissection : Question 16-20
a) Picture shows specific situation (eg. An
accident
b) Paragraph has 5 blanks. Each blanks
consist of 1 word only
c) Each blank numbered (16,17,18,19,20)
d) Missing words are from different
categories (eg. Nouns, Tenses, Adverbs,
etc.)
e) Answers written must be accurate in
usage, spelling, structure (no
markah kesian)

Suggested Tips : Question 16-20
a) Study pictures shown carefully
b) Read and understand the whole text given
c) Confirm which tenses are used for the
whole text
d) Look for words in the exam paper for help
e) Be careful of BM-spelling words (eg. clinic,
ambulance, restaurant, etc.), words that
sounds similar (eg. ‘for’ & ‘four’, etc.) and
tenses.

Question 21 – 22 (30 marks)
(suggested allocated time : 25 mins)

FORMAT (Question 21 – 22)
a) Question 21 (A) & (B) : 5 & 10 marks
- Text / Pictures / Charts are given
- Read to find specific items /data /
information and transfer them into
different format of text (for Question A)
- fill in blanks in the spaces given to write
your choice of items and reasons why you
chose them (for Question B)

Dissection : Question 21 (A) & (B)
a) Text/Pictures/Charts have items that you
must choose later (eg. books, food, etc)
b) Q 21(A) Several columns are given stating
types of main topics with 5 columns left
blank. You must fill in the blank columns
with accurate information from text
/pictures/charts given
c) Answers written in column must be the
same with the information given

Dissection : Question 21 (A) & (B) cont.
d) Q 21(B) A space is given for pupils to
write a short passage/paragraph
describing the item they had chose and
their reasons
e) The 1st blank must be filled with pupil’s
choice or no marks will be awarded
f) Marks will be given to answers that have
their choices stated with reasons and
with good sentence structure
g) Choose only 1 item

Suggested Tips : Question 21(A) & (B)
a) Read text carefully and find main
details/items
b) Try to like the items being given (helps
you to understand the details given..no
problem with food though!)
c) Underline the details when you are filling
in the blank columns (to avoid mistake)
d) Write short, simple sentences
e) State your preferences clearly

FORMAT (Question 21 – 22)
a) Question 22 : 15 marks
- Pictures are shown
- Words and phrases are given with the
pictures shown
- Pupils are to write sentences describing
events from pictures shown
- Pupils must use ALL the words given

Dissection : Question 22
a) 3 pictures are usually given
b) Around 5 – 6 words given
c) Marks are given for correct usage of
sentence structure using words given
d) More marks will be given based on style of
writing, good command of vocabulary,
able to write interesting paragraph
e) No marks will be given if pupils only copy
words/phrases given without
forming any meaningful sentences

Suggested Tips : Question 22
a) Study pictures carefully and read all the
words/phrases
b) Memorise words that starts sentences
c) Words given are usually nouns/adjectives
so practise using connectors (eg. ‘and’,
‘because’, ‘but’, etc.)
d) Determine your tenses from the start of
your work
e) Write simple, short but concise
sentences

f) Do not change any of the words/phrases
given
g) Try not to rearrange the words/phrases
given
h) Check for punctuation marks errors (eg.
capital letters, full stop, etc.)
i ) Use words in the exam papers for help
