The Mountain Pine Beetle Epidemic:

What can be done?
Saturday morning 8:00 to noon, September 25 at the Brownsville
Fire Hall

This workshop, the fourth in the series, will focus on the mountain pine beetle epidemic
that is continuing to expand throughout the Black Hills. The morning program will cover
the current status of the epidemic, how landowners can identify this pest and the trees
they infested and most important, what steps can be taken to reduce the impact of this
problem. We will also be visiting several infested stands so participants can learn first-
hand about the insect and its damage. If understanding the mountain pine beetle is of
interest to you, either as a landowner or just a resident of the Black Hills, please plan to
attend the Saturday morning forest landowner workshop to be held from 9:00 am to noon
at the Brownsville Fire Hall, just south of Deadwood next to Boondocks Restaurant. The
morning program is hosted by the South Dakota Cooperative Extension Service, the
South Dakota Division of Resource Conservation and Forestry and the South Dakota
Tree Farm Committee. There is no cost to attend this workshop.
