VESSEL REDEPLOYMENT AND SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENT
COMOX – POWELL RIVER AND TSAWWASSEN – SOUTHERN GULF ISLANDS
VICTORIA – BC Ferries announces vessel redeployment for the Tsawwassen – Southern Gulf Islands
route as well as the Comox – Powell River run during the fall season.
The Queen of Nanaimo, which services BC Ferries’ Tsawwassen – Southern Gulf Islands route,
will undergo its refit from October 12 through mid-December. During this time, the Queen of Burnaby
will provide service to the Southern Gulf Islands.
The Queen of Burnaby, which is the regular vessel on the Comox – Powell River route, will be
replaced by the Queen of Chilliwack during this time.
A modified schedule will be in place on the Comox – Powell River route from October 12
through mid-December to accommodate the slower speed of the Queen of Chilliwack:
The Queen of Chilliwack has a smaller vehicle and passenger capacity than the Queen of
Burnaby, so overloads may occur. Thursday, Friday and Sunday are especially busy travel days.
Wherever possible, passengers are encouraged to carpool, travel outside of peak sailing times or arrive at
the terminals early.
It is necessary to redeploy the Queen of Burnaby during the Queen of Nanaimo’s refit period as
the Queen of Chilliwack is unable to integrate into the complex schedule of the Southern Gulf Islands.
