Music and Cultural Festival planning day for young people

Young people aged 12-25 are invited to help shape a music and cultural festival for the whole of
the Shire as part of the Murrindindi Youth Bushfire Response Gift.

Murrindindi Youth Partnership members have been discussing opportunities with young people
from across the shire to help shape a festival concept that can contribute to the community’s
recovery from the 2009 fires.

The planning day is set for Saturday 16 October, at the Yea Shire Hall from 10am – 4pm.
Professionally facilitated by experienced festival event managers, the planning day will achieve
a clear vision for the proposed festival including: date, location, bands, workshops,
amusements, size and much more.

Councillor Cris Ruhr said it was a wonderful opportunity for youth to contribute and participate in
a special event.

”This is a youth initiative led by young people from across the shire and highlights the capacity
and desire of young people to help shape the future of our community. Young people will
develop a variety of skills and establish new relationships from around the Shire by taking part
in the development of the festival.”

Following the planning day a small celebration will be conducted at the Yea Skate Park to
celebrate the day’s outcomes and achievements. It will include a live performance and a
barbecue.

To register your interest and to discuss transport opportunities to and from Yea please contact
Murrindindi Shire Council’s Youth Participation Officer on 5772 0713 or email
youth@murrindindi.vic.gov.au .
