MANOR FIELD INFANT AND NURSERY

SCHOOL NEWS LETTER 17th SEPTEMBER 2010

Birthday Assemblies
Parents are invited to join us for a birthday assembly on Friday 24th September at 1.15pm
for all children who have birthdays from 19th September to 25th September inclusive.
LEPRA Fundraising
We have had a visit this week from one of the charity workers from LEPRA who spoke to the
children about the work they have done in India with young people who have leprosy. It can
be cured by a simple 2 week course of tablets and costs just £21 for one cure. We are
asking the children to help us with some fundraising and would be grateful for any money you
can collect. Please return your envelopes by 28th September. As a thank you for the
children, workers from LEPRA will be returning on Tuesday 28th September to carry out an
aerobics session with the children. Thank you for your support.
Attendance
Following the Election, the new Coalition Government has been reviewing all areas of education policy including
attendance. We have been advised that the Government is firmly of the view that absence from school is
unacceptable and all unnecessary absence must be prevented and tackled by schools but we do not as yet have
information on the implementation of any policy, including the role of local and national targets. We are
expecting Ministers will announce their plans in due course.
In the meantime schools are being expected to continue to work to reduce high overall absence, unauthorised
absence and persistent absence, and have in place robust absence management strategies making sure that
they identify and intervene early to prevent emerging patterns of absence - using all of the support available
to them.
PTA Cake Stalls
As part of the PTA fund raising each class holds two cake stalls during the academic year.
You are welcome to come and join us at any of our Friday cake stalls. There will also be tea,
coffee and soft drinks available.
If you could help at any of the cake stalls it would be much appreciated, this involves setting
up tables, making tea and coffee and helping the children sell cakes. If you are able to come
along at 2pm to help please contact Mrs Taylor or leave your name and number at the school
office. Thank you.
Friday 1st October Mrs Anderson/Mrs Taylor
Friday 15th October Miss Grealey

Book Bags
Do you have an old unwanted book bag? Maybe you have a child who has moved on to St
Mary’s and it is just gathering dust in the corner. Please would you be kind enough to bring
any unwanted book bags to the office so they may be redistributed to those children who do
not have one. Many thanks for your help in this matter.
Wet Weather
We would be grateful if all children could have a named pair of wellies in school so we can
still spend time outdoors when the weather becomes wetter.
Money Received in the office
Please note that all money that comes in to the office must be in a sealed envelope, marked with your child’s
name, class, the amount of money in the envelope and the purpose of the money e.g. lunch money, breakfast
club or trip money. Having money in sealed envelopes should help us to reduce the queue at reception in the
mornings; it also saves office staff time in the transfer of money from one staff member to another. Please
feel free to use a recycled envelope if you wish as long as it is sealed (sellotape is fine). Many thanks for your
help in this matter.
