Grade 7 LA: Writing a Fable Name:___________________________

Parts of a fable:

1. Short & simple


2. Characters are animals that act like humans
3. The story is based on a moral
4. The ending makes the moral clear, either by directly stating it or by
implication.

A) Based on the 3 columns, choose your ANIMALS, CHARACTER TRAITS &


MORAL. If you want to choose something else then you can!

Bird Selfish No one likes a quitter
Spider Boastful Slow and steady wins the race
Mouse Cowardly Look before you leap
Snake Stingy Good looks aren’t everything
Rabbit Impatient Pride goes before a fall
Fox Determined It is sometimes better not to
say anything at all
Lion sly You can’t please everyone

B) Before you start writing you will also need to include:


a) What setting will I use? (traditional or modern)
b) What situation can I use to describe to illustrate my moral?

C) Use pronouns to replace a noun or another pronoun. Pronouns help you


avoid unnecessary repetition.

It, them, their, they, she, he, his, hers

D) Use the rules for punctuation and capitalization to split quotations:

i.e. “Madam Crow, I’ve heard your voice is beyond compare,” said the fox.
“Wouldn’t you just sing a few notes for me?”.
