GESTURE BASED COMPUTING

Devices that can accept multiple simultaneous inputs &

gesture-based inputs. Gesture-based computing allows
users to engage in virtual activities with motion and
movement similar to what they would use in the real
world.
How it works?
 Works by translating gestures made with the hands into corresponding gestures
of a 3-D model of the hand on screen.

 The new system gets the 3-D configuration of your hand and your fingers, gets
to know how fingers are flexing.

 For the algorithm written for the system, once a webcam has captured an
image, the software uses several hundred megabytes of memory to search
through visual data in a database.

 Within fraction of a second, the system provides an answer since there’s no

need to calculate the relative positions of the fingers, palm, and back of the
hand on the fly.
Uses of gesture based computing

 Directional indication through pointing

 Alternative computer interfaces

 Control through facial gestures

 Immersive game technology

 Sign language recognition

 Virtual controllers

 Remote control
