Qimat Rai Gupta- The founder of HAVELLS
 Theyear was 1958. Qimat Rai Gupta, a 21-year-old
young school teacher from Malerkotla in Punjab, had
reached Delhi to pursue his dream to start a business.

 Heinvested his entire savings of Rs.10,000. To


launch a small trading business in Cables and Wires
named it as “Guptajee and company” at Bhagirath
Place wholesale electrical goods market.

 Overthe next decade, the school teacher’s business


sharpness and perseverance yielded rich dividends
which made him to take the next step.
 His next step was to manufacturing.

 Buthe needed a Brand. Acquiring Havells for the


large sum of Rs10lacs in1971.

 Hemoved up from being a trader in electrical


equipment to a manufacturer of switchgear.

 Indeed that laid the foundation for success story that


is Havells India today.
 The group's phenomenal success over the years has
been due to Mr. Qimat Rai Gupta's mantra of
"growth through quality, innovation and market consolidation".

 Hisfocus on research and development has enabled


the group to develop products for consumers that
offer great value for money.
Achievements
1) He has, in his past, served as the President of
Federation of All India Electrical and Trade association.

2) Mr.Gupta received the Self-made Entrepreneur Award


"Udyog Patra" in 1989.

3) Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award 2004, from the


PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2004.

4) Udyog Vibhushan from the Institute of Trade &


Industrial Development, Delhi in 2005.

5) Udyog Ratna from PHD Chamber of Commerce &


Industry for Economic Contribution to Uttaranchal State
in 2005.
Corporate Social Responsibility
1. Havells contributes to socially responsible activities,
like providing mid-day meal in government
schools in Alwar district, covering 15000 students
per day.

2. Besides this the company has acquired land for


constructing a larger kitchen with all the modern
facilities to serve freshly cooked food to 50000
students in the area.

3. Havells runs a mobile Medical Van, equipped with


a trained doctor and necessary medicines in the
rural areas of Delhi & NCR for the very poor and
needy villagers.
4. They have also set up free medical check-up
camps.

5. In the past, the company has also contributed to the


society during various national calamities like the
Bihar Flood, Tsunami and Kargil National Relief Fund
etc.
 In 1992, Anil Gupta (Founder’s son)
joined the Group.
 Currently designated as the joint MD,
Havells India.

 Turnover –Rs 5,400 crore.

 Employees- over 7000 people.

 Distribution network- over 50 countries, mainly


Latin America and Europe.

 Turningpoint- in 1998, when intense competition


from MNC’s made it invest heavily in manufacturing.

 LessKnown Fact- Brand spending is more than that


of Top Five Brands in sector put together.

 Leadership position- Among the top three in every


product category.
