THESIS ABSTRACT

Rationale Background

This study focuses on the capabilities of post operative patients of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

Medical Center to render care for themselves. The result of the study will be used to come up with

a proposed educational material to improve the affective, cognitive, and psychomotor skills

about self care capabilities of the post operative patient.

The subjects of the study are the post-operative patients male and female ages 18-

50 years old of Our Lady of Mount Carmel .Medical Center.

• The purpose of this study is to provide a wider understanding why the respondents are

having a difficulty on providing self care, or do they chose not to render appropriate self care

needs, or they follow their own cultural practices.

• The study assessed the self care capabilities of post-op patients of Our Lady of Mt

Carmel Medical Center specifically this study answered the following questions:

1) How may the respondents’ profile be describe as to age; sex; and marital status.

2) How may the respondents’ self-care capabilities be describe as to affective; cognitive;

and psychomotor skills.

3) Is there a significant relationship between the patient’s self care capabilities?

4) Based on the study what is the implication for the application of the theoretical theory of

Orem in Nursing service.

• The conceptual framework presents the input ( demographic profile of the respondents as

to age; sex; marital status and respondents self care capabilities as to affective; cognitive and

psychomotor skills) process ( formulation of approval letter to the chief nurse ; formulation of

questionnaires; phase validation of questionnaires; distribution of questionnaires to the

respondents; stating the purpose and the relevance of the study to the respondents; retrieval of

questionnaires to the respondents; tabulation of the results; documentation.) output (self care

capabilities its implication to nursing service.

• In the study we would like to know if the post operative patients can render care by

themselves. We observed that most of the respondents are female and many of them have a

higher extend in giving self care, thus the hypothesis is correct which states that there is no

significant relationship between the patient’s demographic profile and their self care capabilities.
