Marisa VanDomelen

President

Hello, my name is Marisa, and I will be your PVMA President for this year. I am an Animal
Science major, with a Pre-Vet option. I transferred from COCC after my sophomore year, and I am excited
to be starting my second year here at OSU. My main focus for vet school is large animal and/or food
animal production.

Before moving to Corvallis, I lived in Powell Butte, OR, farming and ranching with my family. It is
always bittersweet to come back to school, having to leaving the ranch behind. I still raise a few cattle and
horses, and love to go back and visit!

I look forward to meeting more PVMA members and working with an amazing group of officers
for the next year!

Victoria Thomas
Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Victoria Thomas and I am your Activities Coordinator for the OSU Pre-Veterinary
Medical Association. I am a junior in Zoology with a Pre-Vet option here at Oregon State. I plan on
applying to vet school in the fall of 2011. Right now I can’t decide which field I want to practice in. I keep
going back and forth between equine, wildlife, or small animal.

I am from San Diego, CA and moved up to Oregon to go to school because I wanted to try to
experience something different. I have a Golden Retriever at home named Ace. I have worked in a small
animal clinic in San Diego for about three and a half years. I also worked in an emergency clinic and large
animal clinic this past summer.

Besides being the Activities Coordinator for the OSU Pre-Vet Club, I am a member of Kappa
Alpha Theta  sorority, and am also in the Oregon State Honors College. I am currently Vice President of
Administration in my sorority.
I am looking forward to organizing some exciting, interesting, and fun activities and field trips for
you guys! Please don’t hesitate to email me if you have any suggestions or questions!

Anna Sims
Fundraising Coordinator

Hi, my name is Anna Sims and I am your Fundraising Coordinator for OSU Pre-
Veterinary Medical Association this school year. I am a junior majoring in Zoology with a Pre-Vet option
here at OSU. I will be applying to vet school this coming year and hope to get into OSU’s program. I plan
to focus my veterinary studies on small animal and equine practice. I am from Montana and decided to
come to Oregon State for the veterinary program. Once I have completed vet school I plan to return home
to Montana to start my career.

I love school and my classes and enjoy the challenges they throw at me everyday. When in
Oregon, I work for OSU as a math tutor with focus on math 111. When I am home in Montana, I work for a
veterinary clinic called Best Friends; I have been there for about three years now. This past summer, in
addition to working at Best Friends, I did a small internship at a local ranch working mainly with sheep
and cattle. I plan to continue my internship next summer. Outside of school I enjoy many outdoor
activities and working out, especially running, as well as playing the drums and violin, and, of course,
spending time with my family and friends.

I recently adopted a one-eyed kitten from my work this summer and named her Hootie. She has
quickly become a wonderful addition to my life and I am excited to have her in Oregon with me this year.

I am looking forward to being an officer in the PVMA this year and planning some great
fundraisers! I am always working on fun and interesting ideas, so please feel free to give me any input
you’d like. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you this year.

Kyle Tidwell
Volunteer Coordinator

I am an Oregon resident who was raised in a small town called Gaston. I competed in rodeo while
growing up, and went to Montana State to Calf Rope on their rodeo team. As I finished my sophomore
year there, I qualified for the national finals. After which I decided to alter my life course by working on
getting into vet school.

My last year at Oregon State showed me what a great school it is. The opportunities this school
offers are fantastic. These opportunities are what I plan to continue with. As volunteer coordinator, my
job is to connect club members with local veterinary professionals. These opportunities include
internships and job shadows that allow members to gain valuable experience with animals, and work in a
variety of veterinary fields. Feel free to contact me with any questions about these positions.

Renee Hlasnik

Hi, I’m Renee Hlasnik and I am your Symposium Coordinator! I am a senior majoring in Animal
Sciences with a pre-vet option (bet you couldn’t guess that). I’ve been to the PVMA Symposium twice and
had a blast both times, so I hope many of you will come along this year and join in the fun.

I’ve wanted to be a vet since I was five years old. I remember having an assignment in
kindergarten to dress a bear as what I wanted to be when I grew up. My bear was a veterinarian, and ever
since then I’ve never dreamed of being anything else. My goal is to be a small animal veterinarian,
possibly specializing in feline or shelter medicine.

I got my start working with animals by volunteering at Cat Adoption Team (CAT) nine years ago.
Now, I work at CAT during school breaks. Over the years, I have also volunteered at Crossroads
Veterinary Hospital, OSU Lambing Crew, and Heartland Humane Society. I love having animals in my
life, although I currently have no pets of my own. Back home, in Sherwood, my family has six cats and
two dogs, all of which I miss very much.

I look forward to spending this year as part of the OSU PVMA officer team and hope that I will get
to know many of you during the symposium trip this year!
