Rational emotive behavior therapy (REBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy developed by Albert Ellis in the 1950s. REBT seeks to identify and dispute irrational and self-defeating beliefs that underlie emotional and behavioral problems. Therapists help clients recognize irrational beliefs, evaluate them rationally, and replace them with more adaptive beliefs. The goal of REBT is to help clients learn to think, feel, and behave in a more rational and productive manner.
