APPLICATION OF SURGE ARRESTER

LOVOS surge arresters with nominal discharge current, depending on choice, 5kA or 10kA, with continuous operating
voltage Uc=280, 440, or 660V are intended to protection of low voltage power engineering equipment in a.c. networks
with frequency from 48 to 62 Hz, against destructive effects of lightning and switching overvolatges. It can be connected
to all kinds of overheadlines including overheadlines with conductors in insulation.It can be used in indoor application.

DESIGN OF SURGE ARRESTER

It is gapless surge arrester with metal-oxide block, having screw type line outlet and earthing outlet in flat fin version with
the hole. There is the polyamide housing with stabilizer, which ensures the resistant for UV radiation, on the surface of
ZnO block and contact parts of outlets, without any crack.
The housing must ensure: the protection of block against weather conditions, suitable tight force of connect surfaceof
oulets to ZnO block and suitable level of insulation.
Surge arrester is constructed in version with disconnector or without.
Surge arrester has the big variety of top accessories (line) and bottom (earthing).

INSTALLATION OF SURGE ARRESTERS

After unpacking, one should check if technical data on the nameplate of surge arrester are compatible with project or
reconstructed specification of an object and whether to connect the surge arrester between line and earth or between
lines.
The installation should be carried out with switched off the voltage in the network or under normal work of the network
according to rules „Works under the voltage technology”.

WARNING! It is necessary to obey the local regulations in this matter in country, where surge arresters
are installed.

Worning! When selecting accessories please take into consideration, that it is not allowed to cause any
mechanical stresses during mounting the arresters between phase and earth or between phases.
After selection suitable accessories, it is necessary to install surge arresters possibly nearest of protected object with
possible lowest of earthing impedance.
Top accessories are mounted on screw outlet of surge arrester. Accessories no. cat. 1701, 1702, 1704 and 1706 by
winding up without any additional coupling elements, no. cat. 1703 with washer and nut, which are included to the kit,
and no. cat. 1705 after screwing the sleeve.
Top accessories no. cat. 1705 are mounted to insulation line with the torque up to break the nut.of the bolt.
Bottom accessories (earthing) are mounted to the hole of the earthing outlet of surge arrester by using the kit: bolt,
washer and nut. Earthing conductors of surge arresters with disconnector should be flexible with terminals
(no. cat. 2711-2718) and should be shaped in form of letter “U”, in order to help of action the disconnector (throwing
away the earthing outlet from the housing).

MAINTENANCE
Surge arresters type LOVOS don't require the special maintenance. After bigger storms with discharges, it is
recommended to pay attention to outward appearance of surge arresters. The best way to do it, is by the using of
binoculars. Damaged surge arresters or these, in which the disconnector was operated should be replaced with new
one. After operating the disconnector, there is the earthing outlet outside the housing with visible red colour.
WARNING! It is necessary to obey the local regulations in this matter in country, where surge arresters were installed.

RECYCLING
Surge arresters, because of using raw materials and technology, aren't dangerous for the environment.
Broken-down product should be disassembled with filing steel parts, non-ferrous metal parts and rubber.
Arrester housing should be broken by the hit of the hammer, surge arrester should lie on the metal sheet and should be
wrapped around in linen fabric or other material in order to avoid the splinters. Next, should be filed the metal parts, ZnO
block, graphite washers and damaged housing polyamide parts.
Filed metal parts, broken polyamide parts, rubber parts and graphite washers should be given for recycling or utilisation
to suitable companies.

PACKING, TRANSPORT AND STORAGE

Surge arresters are packed by 3 pcs in cartoons, and separately, accessories by 3 pcs in foil bags, next together in
collective package. Packed arresters don't require special conditions of transportation apart from the protection against
the rain. The same about the storage.
Issues above mentioned process, it is furnes emission by the means of transport and cartoon and foil wastes, which
should be given for recycling or utilisation to suitable companies.

SPARE PARTS
Deliveries of spare parts, and repairs of surge arresters aren't foreseen.

REQUIREMENTS
Surge arresters type LOVOS (GX0-LOVOS) meet the requirements of polish standard PN-IEC 61643-1 and
international standard IEC 61643-1 class II standard DIN/VDE 0675/6 class A and Amendment 2 to IEC 60099-4 in
relevant range. Publication 03.2002
