The Do’s and Don’ts of Expository Essays

(According to Mrs. Miller’s 1A Class)

Do’s Don’ts

 Five paragraphs  One big paragraph as your essay


 Introduction paragraph  Use dialogue to tell a story
 FRIES (Facts, Reasons, Incidents,  Use elementary /easy /boring/
Examples, Sensory Details, dead words
Statistics)  Incomplete sentences (fragments)
 Write 5-7 sentences in a paragraph  Go off topic
 Use proper punctuation!  “Once Upon a Time”
