INTRODUCTION
• Figurative language refers to words, and groups of words,
that exaggerate or alter the usual meanings of the
component words.
11. PARADOX:
Something that at first seems to contradict itself
e.g. : "A little learning is a dangerous thing.“
12. HYPERBOLE:
A great exaggeration used to emphasize a point, and is
used for expressive or comic effect.
e.g. : "My date last night was the most beautiful girl in
the world."
13. SYMBOLISM:
Something represents a completely different
thing or idea.
e.g.: The snitches symbolize various prejudice in
people.
14. ANTITHESIS:
Saying the opposite of what you really mean, for
effect
e.g. : "That was a cool move, man."
