We meet on the second Wednesday of the month from 6:30 - 7:30 in our school library. All
families are welcome.
 School Governance Council
Candidate Statements for LeConte's SGC Election 2010 - 2011
The School Governance Council (SGC) is made up of 12 voting members, 6 parents and 6 teachers/staff, and is
charged with developing the School Plan for Educating the Whole Child. The Council must design a plan for
LeConte on an annual basis, monitor its implementation, and evaluate the results. In developing the Plan, the
SGC Committee reviews achievement data, designs and reviews parent and teacher surveys, and approves the
yearly budget of our school's State, Federal, and Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP) monies. A
copy of this Year's Plan is available in the School Office.
Please keep in mind that one of our objectives as a school is to have the needs of ALL our students represented
on the SGC and it is desirable to have council members that represent our diverse community. Each year two to
six voting positions are open to parents/community members for a two-year term. The following parents have
volunteered to serve on the Council and have written a short bio regarding their interest.

Jacqueline 80u
I would like to serve on the School Governance Council because I want to continue to support LeConte's efforts
serve and meet the needs of the entire school community. Last year I worked on the distributing the LeConte
Family Survey and compiling responses. I hope to assist our school with this type of outreach again .

August Fern
I want to see LeConte live up to its full potential for all students. SGC is in a position to implement and monitor
programs to make this happen. I have a special interest in making sure aU students are challenged in
mathematics, science, and technology.

Jocelyn Gale Glickman

Last year I really enjoyed serving the school by working on the SGC board. Working on our school's budget
and trying to find ways to help all students, staff, and teachers at the school was an enjoyable experience. I
would enjoy continuing this work again this year.

Chris Martin
I am interested in being a part of the LeConte SCG for the betterment of all LeConte students. The SGC
presents an opportunity to positively impact the school, the district, and the community at large. My experience
as a 2 year member gives me an opportunity to continue to provide valuable input to this committee.

Denise Montgomery
I served as co-chair of the SGC for the past two years because I'm interested in an equitable education for all
LeConte students. I looking forward to supporting the next chairperson(s) and the work of this committee.

Penny Peak
Throughout my eight years at LeConte, I have consistently served as an active member of our PTA and School
Governance Council. I have a working knowledge of our community and this has enabled me to use my verbal
and written communication skills to do outreach to families and help shape our school 's culture so that all
families and students feel heard and included.

Yawo Tekpa
LeConte has given a lot to my son, Pepe, who is an English language learner. Thanks to the hard work of the
entire LeConte community, my son is doing better than I expected. It is therefore my desire to support and add
my contributions to the good work taking place at LeConte.

Minera Tirado
I am interested in being a part of the SCG because I have a daughter in kindergarten and I want her school
experience to be as positive as possible. Therefore, I want to know more about the school and what I can do to
help improve the .achievement of all students.
N ahid Vafadari
I am interested in serving on the Council to enhance school test scores and student achievement.

Gazel Valdez
This is my third year at LeConte. I have a son in kindergarten and a daughter in third grade. For the past two
years, I have been an active member of our PTA and English Language Advisory Committee in addition
spending weekly hours as a classroom volunteer. Since I have the time and availability, I am committed to
helping LeConte create a positive school culture that supports the diverse linguistic, artistic, and academic skills
that our students possess.

 ELECCIONES DE PADRES PARA EL COMITE DE

SCHOOL GOVERNANCE COUNCIL (SGC) PARA EL ANa 2010 - 2011

EI Comite de School Governance Council consiste de 12 miembros, 6 padres y 6 maestros/empleados, y su

funcion es desarrollar el Plan Escolar para la Ensenanza del Nino Entero. EI Comite tiene que hacer el diseno
del Plan para la Escuela de Cragmont cada ano, observar la implementacion, y evaluar los resultados. En el
desarrollo del Plan, el Comite estudia los datos academicos de los estudiantes, prepara y recibe los cuestionarios
de padres y maestros, y aprueba las expensas de dinero que recibimos del gobiemo federal, del estado y del
Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP). Una copia del Plan se puede pedir en la oficina.

Uno de los objetivos de nuestra escuela es tener representacion de las necesidades y intereses diversos de todos
los estudiantes en el SGc. Cada ano se abren tres-sies posiciones para representantes de los padres. Los
siguientes padres se han voluntado para servir en el Comite y han escrito un corto resumen de su interes:

Jacqueline Bou: Me gustaria servir en el Concejo de Gobiemo de la escuela porque quiero seguir apoyando los
esfuerzos de LeConte, sirviendo y satisfaciendo las necesidades de toda la comunidad escolar. EI ano pasado
trabaje en la distribucion de el estudio de la Familia LeConte y elaboracion de respuestas. Espero ayudar a nuestra
escuela de esta manera nuevamente.

August Fern: Quiero ver major nivel ala escuela de LeConte y el potencial de todos los estudiantes. SGC esta
en condiciones de aplicar y supervisar programas para que esto suceda. Tengo un interes especial en asegurar que
todos los estudiantes tengan un reto en aprender las matematicas, ciencia y la tecnologia.

Jocelyn Gale Glickman: EI ano pasado me gusto mucho servir a la escuela, al trabajar en el tablero de SGc.
Trabajando sobre el presupuesto de la escuela nuestra y tratando de encontrar maneras de ayudar a todos los
estudiantes, empleados y maestros de la escuela fue una experiencia agradable. Me encantarfa continuar este
trabajo de nuevo este ano.

Chris Martin: Estoy interesado en ser parte de la SCG de LeConte, para el mejoramiento de todos los
estudiantes LeConte. La SGC ofrece la oportunidad de impactar positivamente a la escuela, el distrito y la
comunidad en general. Mi experiencia como miembro dos anos me da la oportunidad de continuar
proporcionando una valiosa aportacion a este comite.

Denise Montgomery: Yo servi como co-presidente de la SGC durante los ultimos dos anos porque estoy
interesado en una educacion equitativa para todos los estudiantes LeConte. Yo tengo ganas de apoyar a los
siguientes presidente en el futuro y el trabajo de esta comision.

Penny Peak: A 10 largo de mis ocho an os en LeConte, yo he servido como un miembro activo de la PTA y la
Escuela de Gobiemo del Consejo. Tengo un conocimiento de trabajo de nuestra comunidad y esto me ha
permitido usar mis habilidades de comunicacion escrita y verbal que ayudan a las familias y a formar la cultura de
nuestra escuela para que todas las familias y los estudiantes se sientan escuchados y se incluyan.

Yawo Tekpa: LeConte ha dado mucho a mi hijo, Pepe, quien es una estudiante del idioma Ingles. Gracias al
trabajo duro de toda la comunidad LeConte, mi hijo esti haciendo mejor de 10 esperado. Par 10 tanto, mi deseo de
apoyar y aportar mi contribucion a la buena labor que tienen lugar en LeConte.

Nahid Vafadari: Estoy interesado en servir en el Consejo para mejorar lag calificacioneg de exameneg egcolareg
y el rendimiento estudiantil.
Gaze) Valdez: Este es mi tercer ano en LeConte. Tengo un hijo en el kinder y una hija en tercer grado. Durante
los ultimos dos afios, he sido un miembro activo de nuestro PTA y Asesor de el Comite de el Idioma Ingles,
ademas de pasar horas semanales como voluntario en nuestras classes. Porque yo tengo el tiempo y la
disponibilidad, estoy comprometida a ayudar a LeConte a crear una cultura escolar positiva para los estudios
lingOfsticos, artfsticos y academicos que nuestros alumnos poseen.
