‡ The pH scale measures how acidic or basic a substance is. ‡ The scale goes from 0 14
0 - 6 = Acids 8 14 = Bases

Acids
‡ Any substance that has a pH below 7 is called an acid. ‡ These substances tend to taste sour.

Bases
‡ Any substance with a pH above 7 is called a base ‡ These substances tend to taste bitter

Neutral Substances
‡ Any substance with a pH of 7 is neutral ‡ Pure water is a neutral substance.
