What is your single most feature/factor

when you purchase a car?

Fuel efficiency.
Design & look of the car.
Brand.
Safety features.
Price.
VEHICLE SAFETY: Seatbelt & Airbag

Yes they can really save your life, if you are aware about it.
Seatbelts
Need of the seatbelt.
Types of seatbelts.
Important parts of seatbelt system and its
function.
- Buckle.
- Load Limiter.
- Pretensioner.
- Retractor.
NEED OF SEATBELTS.
PURPOSE: The job of the seatbelt is to hold the
passenger in place so the passenger is almost part of
the car which prevents the passenger from flying
forward as the car stops abruptly in the case of a
collision.
TYPES OF SEATBELTS.
LAP
- Adjustable strap that
goes over the waist.

SASH
- Adjustable strap that
goes over the shoulder.
TYPES OF SEATBELTS.
THREE-POINT
- Similar to the lap and
shoulder, but one single
continuous length of
webbing.
- Both three-point and lap-
and-sash belts help spread
out the energy of the
moving body in a collision
over the chest, pelvis, and
shoulders.
BELT-IN-SEAT (BIS)

- The BIS is a three-point

where the shoulder belt
attachment is to the
backrest, not to the b
pillar
IMPORTANT PARTS OF SEATBELTS
BUCKLE.
A seatbelt buckle must
be able to withstand
extremely high loads
during a crash.
 At the same time, it
must be easy to open
even when heavily
loaded
IMPORTANT PARTS OF SEATBELTS

LOAD LIMITERS.

Load limiters absorb the

load in a crash in a very
efficient way by keeping
the belt force at a
controlled and pre-
defined level
IMPORTANT PARTS OF SEATBELTS
PRETENSIONERS
These tighten the belt
during the very first
fractions of a second in a
Lap Pretensioner
crash.
Pretensioners also reduce
the risk of "submarining"
(the car occupant slip
The Retractor
Pretensioner under a loosely tightened
seatbelt).
IMPORTANT PARTS OF SEATBELTS
RETRACTOR

Most vehicles have one

retractor in each seatbelt
system
SRS airbag(SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS)

The goal of an airbag is to slow the passenger's

forward motion as evenly as possible in a fraction of a
second.

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION.

- Bag.
- Sensor and Accelerometer .
- Inflation system.

Passenger Air Bag

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION
The airbag's inflation
system reacts sodium
azide (NaN3) with
potassium nitrate
(KNO3) to produce
nitrogen gas.
It inflates bag at speed of
322 km/hr faster then
blink of eye.
whole process happens
in only one-twenty-
fifth of a second
Inflation process.
