Sludge Volume Index (SVI): SVI is a further measure of the settling characteristics

of the sludge. It is defined as the volume occupied by 1 gram, dry weight, of sludge
after settling for 30 minutes in a 1000 ml Imhoff´s cone or test cylinder. If mixed
liquor suspended solids concentration (MLSS) has been determined by a laboratory it
can be calculated as follows:

SVI = SSV x 1000 / MLSS
