Where is it? • Madogo is a village neighbouring Garissa, the main town of Kenya's North Eastern Province. • It is a hot, dry, isolated and very poor area. • It is 9 hours drive from Nairobi, which is the capital city. • Because it is so close to Garissa town, the area has: - Good communication facilities - Decent roads - Clean water - Electricity Education • Education is a major challenge in Madogo • Since independence the community has not produced a single university graduate. • However, it is hoped that several campaigns will raise awareness about the importance of education. • Students who attend Madogo Secondary school are incredibly dedicated to their education, with many travelling from hundreds of miles away. • The local community began the school in 1984 as a self help project. • With 450 pupils, more boys (321) than girls (141) Madogo Secondary School Facilities • Ten class rooms • Administration block • Science lab • They have computer but no internet • dining hall in poor condition • Two staff houses • 3 dormitories
