Dress Code for Students

It is the philosophy at Southern Oaks Middle School that when students “Dress for Success”, they are successful.

Students may wear:


► Jeans, shorts, Capri’s or pants must be worn at the waist and belted
● Denim without frays, cuts, holes, writing, damaged/destroyed (either purchased that way or due to wear)
● May not be overly tight
● Graphics/pictures/logos/writing may not to be larger than standard pocket size

► Belts must be worn in pants/skirts loops at all times and be visible


● Belt buckles must be smaller than three (3) inches in length and/or width

► Dresses, skirts and shorts must be no more than two (2) inches above the knee cap
● Dresses must have sleeves
● Must have a neckline no lower than the horizontal line drawn across the chest from the top of the armpits

► Collared shirts/blouses must be buttoned up to the horizontal line as described above


● Shirts/blouses must be tucked in and may not be overly tight
● T-shirts may not be worn over a collared shirt
● Graphics/pictures/logos/writing may not to be larger than standard pocket size
 Must have a neckline no lower than the horizontal line drawn across the chest from the top of the armpits
 School spirit shirts may be worn any day of the week (this does NOT include PE shirts)

► Closed-toed shoes/tennis shoes with a back or back strap


● All straps/laces must be properly fastened

► Jewelry
● May not be any larger than one (1) inch in size
● ONLY pierced ears are permitted
● Plain or charm style necklaces
● ONLY watches and bracelets may be worn on arms

Any variation of what is described in the “Students May Wear” heading above will be considered out of dress code.
Additionally, the following items are considered out of dress code.

► Any visible display of undergarments


► Elastic waist or draw-string athletic pants/shorts
► Pajamas
► Flip-flops
► Bedroom slippers
► Hooded jackets & sweatshirts are permitted, but hoods may NOT be worn on campus anytime
► Hats, visors, hair grooming aids, bandannas or sunglasses
► Pants with legs pulled or rolled up
► Any clothing or accessory, including belt buckles, suggestive of drugs, alcohol, sex, Satanism, violence, profanity,
gangs, or showing/implying inappropriate pictures/language
► Excessive, distractive or hazardous jewelry, accessories, including dog collars, chains, grills, or any body piercing
other than ears
► Overly distractive make-up, hair colors or hair cuts
► Any other clothing or hair styles, stickers which are deemed inappropriate or distractive
ADMINISTRATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MAKE
FINAL DECISIONS ON APPROPRIATE DRESS
