Set Journalists Free

Dear Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan,

We join the call made by the Turkish Jour-

nalists’ Union and the European Federa-
tion of Journalists for the immediate and
unconditional release of journalists jailed
in Turkey.

Over 40 Turkish journalists are currently in

prison awaiting trial on charges of violat-
ing the Turkish penal code or anti-terror
laws as a result of their journalism. The
only thing they are guilty of is fulfilling
their journalistic duties. Yet they have been
put behind bars.

We urge your Government to end this cli-

mate of fear and intimidation facing Turkish
journalists and to immediately reform the
country’s legal system to protect journalists’
rights to respect freedom of expression.
