Why Team Drills?
• Time – we are all pushed to get the most done in a 2
hour practice
• Consistency – same drills run in HS / MS programs
• Player / Coach involvement – standing around by
players minimized; coaches see more than their position
players during these drills
• Tone Setters – establishes the pace of practice
• Pride – Everyone (coaches, players, fans) is watching
Types of Team Drills
• Stretching
• Agilities
• Blocking and Tackling
• Fumble Drills
• Defense
• Special Teams
• Offense
Team Stretching Drills
• Team Pre-Stretch
– 5 minutes
– Six lines = six exercises
– Purpose is to loosen up already warm muscles and
to have an official start of practice
• Team Post-Stretch
– 5 minutes
– Six lines = six exercises
– Purpose is to cool down, counsel players, and to
have an official end of practice
Team Agility Drills
• County Fair
– 6 stations (football agilities, hurdles, bags, ladders,
plyometrics, cones) from 6 stretching lines
– 1.5 minutes per station = 10 minute period

Team Agility Drills (cont)
• Power Circuit
– 4 stations divided by grade at the corners of the
field
– Opposite corners run, while other corners do
movement drills (jumping jacks, push ups, sit ups,
load and explode, mountain climbers, etc)

• One on One Drill – Best Drill in football!
• 4 players (QB / Runner / Blocker / Tackler) – 5 yards to
EZ
• Width of pit is 2 yards
• Coach gives count to offense. QB calls cadence
• 3 pits go in sequence. Great to video

• Coach points behind defense which direction to dive

• Teaches everyone when and how to avoid block (side of
the ball) and when and how to run through a block

• Punt Cover Drill
• Teaches everyone proper coverage lanes from
multiple spots
• Chance for returners to catch the ball, snappers to
snap and cover, PP to call direction of punt and fill
Offensive Team Drills
• China Series – done in place of agilities on Wed.
• No huddle offense on air
• 5 memorized plays from the same formation
• Usually 3 pass and 2 runs
• #1 varsity, #2 varsity, JV, and Freshman all run China series during
the 5 minute period
• Two Minute Drill – everyone must know!
• Practice the situation (cadence, audibles, FG team)
• Clock stopper plays
• Use of time outs
• Screen / Draw plays
• Trick Play Period
