How to Connect to a Print Queue

Harcourt Assessment System Administration How-To Number 027

Version 1.0
27 July 2007
1. Determine if the printer is using the old or new naming convention: the
old naming convention prefixes all printers with HASSAT, the new does
not.
2. Connect to one of the print servers. \\tpcsatprtp001 for printers with the
old naming convention, \\hassatprtp001va for printer with the new
naming convention.
a. Click Start

b. Click Run… in the right column.

c. Type either \\tpcsatprtp001 or \\hassatprtp001va and click OK.

d. Alternatively, just click one of the links in this document above.

3. Find the print queue that you would like to connect to, right click it and
choose Connect…
4. Your system will now download and install the drivers and connect to the
printer queue for your use.

5. To see additional information about a print queue before you connect to it

or to help find a print queue, double-click on Printer and Faxes.

6. Change the view to Details by selecting View->Details from the menu

or selecting Details from the view toolbar icon.

7. Choose the desired printer, right-click and choose Connect… Note that
in this view, if you do not have access to a printer, it will not appear.
8. Some (physical) printers using the new naming convention have two print
queues; e.g., 1E-Copy1-1025 and 1E-Copy1-1025R. Output sent to
either queue ends up at the same physical print device; however, 1E-
Copy1-1025 will not print in color. 1E-Copy1-1025R will print in color,
but its use is restricted to a pre-defined list of users.
