 What is Export

Sending of Merchandise goods from one

country to another to earn foreign exchange is
called Export.
Commodities exported from India
• India is leading exporter of gems and jewelry,
textiles, engineering goods, chemicals, leather
manufactures .
• India is poor in oil resources and is currently
heavily dependent on coal and foreign oil
imports for its energy needs.
• Other imported products are: machinery,
gems, fertilizers and chemicals.
• Main trading partners are European Union,
The United States, China and UAE .
 Balance of Trade
• the difference in value over a period of time of
a country's imports and exports of
merchandise

• "a nation's balance of trade is favorable when

its exports exceed its imports"
 Balance of Payment
• Part of the Balance of Payments that records
only the commodities transactions of a
country with the rest of the world in a specific
period.

• Export in May 2009 is 11952 Million USD in INR 58005 Cr

• Imports in May 2009 is 19806 Million USD in INR 96125Cr

• Export in May 2010 is 16145 Million USD in INR 73964 Cr

• Imports in May 2010 is 27437 Million USD in INR 125694 Cr

 Types of Business

• Nominated Business:

 BOOKING RECEIVED

• The shipment information is given by the

shipper in the Origin

• The shipment information is given by the

destination office
 CHECKING THE RATES AND SOP
• If the shipment has regular movement then
we have to obtain the SOP from the
Destination office. This is CS and Operations
responsibility to read the SOP prior to the
handling of the shipment.

• The rates have to be also taken care for the

movement. If the rates are not in place then
origin has to give the Net Net buy to get the
sell rates
 DOCS RECEIVED IN SCAN
• In this stage the shippers gives the scan docs(Invoice
and packing list) and we file the shipping bill.
• Original license is required to get registered if the
same is not done by the shipper
• We also request for the SLI from the shipper for filing
the shipping bill. Important points in SLI are
 AD CODE
 IEC CODE
 TYPE OF SHIPPING BILL
 Destination for the shipping bill
 SPECIAL INSTRUCTION BY THE SHIPPER IF ANY
 US Compliance Declaration to be signed by the shipper.

 CUSTOMS CLEARANCE
• TC paid to the Airport Authority prior to the entry of
the Cargo.
• Cargo is sent by truck to Airport
• Weighing and measurement is done by Airlines/Airport
Authority. TC amended if there is weight discrepancy
• Papers then sent for customs clearance to the
respective officer and finally the goods are inspected
• LET export given by the customs superintendent once
the customs clearance is over
• Finally the cargo is handed over to the airlines with
Cargo Menifest, MAWB, HAWB and original shipment
documents.
 BILLING

• Bill is raised to the shipper as per the

shipment terms FOB/CIF/C&F

• Finally the Profit sharing invoice is raised by

operations .
 PREALERT

• Pre alert is sent to the Destination Office/Shipper

• Pre-alert docs for Overseas Pre-alert

Ceva Profit sharing Debit Note and other Debit Note
 Release of the Post Shipmen Docs

• DEPB Copy/Exchange control Copy
