This document provides study notes for a quiz on matter, volume, mass, and weight. It defines matter as anything that has mass and takes up space. It explains that volume can be measured in liters and milliliters, and discusses how to find the volume of regular and irregularly shaped objects. It distinguishes between mass, which is the amount of matter in an object, and weight, which is the gravitational force on the object. Mass stays the same while weight can change depending on location. Inertia is defined as an object's resistance to changes in motion, with more mass leading to greater inertia.

• Matter: anything that has mass and takes up space
• Everything is made of matter that we can see.
• Liquid Volume: Measured by Liters and milliliters
• Meniscus: Where the liquid in a cylinder is measured
• Find the Volume of a solid object: Length x Width x Height
• Measured in cubic units Object has the length on 5, width of 1, & height of 2 Volume= 10 cubic cm
• Irregularly Shape Volume: Measure the volume of water in a cup then
add the object and measure the volume again then subtract the volumes
• Mass & Weight:
• Mass: The amount of matter in an object. Si unit= Kilogram(KG) • Weight: Is the measure of the gravitational force exerted(applied to) on an object SI Unit= Newton(N) • Important Difference: Mass doesnʼt change weight changes. When on the moon weight is lighter and mass is the same!!!
• Converting Mass to weight:
• Student has the mass of 45,000 grams = 450 Newtons • 1 newton= 100 grams
• Inertia: The tendency of the object to resist a change in motion
• The more mass the object has it is harder to move and stop • Large Mass = Large Inertia
