Portuguese
represented
in Beehive
The Portuguese community in New
Zealand is now officially
represented in Parliament through
the placement of a symbolic ribbon
featured on a sculpture along with
ribbons from other communities.
The ceremony to unveil the ribbon
took place last April and was
another step towards the promotion
of the Portuguese community in
New Zealand.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, the
Honorable Pansy Wong, was present
at the ceremony and the
Portuguese consul in Sydney,
Semiao Pinto, also made a point of
travelling across the Tasman to
attend the unveiling of the ribbons.

A total of over one hundred
people got together in
Auckland last June to celebrate
the Portuguese culture and
socialise amongst other
Annual lunch joins over 100
Portuguese people living in
people
New Zealand.
The third annual lunch
organised by Amigos de
Portugal took place in the
Howick Community Centre and
had John Banks, at the time
still Mayor of Auckland, as a
VIP guest.
This was the first event
organised by the association
since it became officially
recognised in the country.
The Portuguese culture was
celebrated through traditional
food, Portuguese music and
conversations in the language
of Camoes.
