INTRODUCTION TO KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS

MANAGEMENT

2010/11

WHAT IS AN INFORMATION SYSTEM?

An Initial Exercise

Write a short report (about 1000 words) which seeks to define and explain
what an information system is. What are information systems for? In other
words, what do they do? Make sure you accurately reference your sources of
information.

The report should be submitted to the Reception Desk of the School of

Management by 3:30pm on Friday 15th October 2010. An electronic version
should also be submitted.

The mark you receive will count as 10% of the assessment for MANG6119.

Your report will be assessed on the basis of the ability it demonstrates to

prepare a coherent, considered and insightful analysis of the topic, making
use of literature as appropriate. The assessment of your report will recognise
the limited time available to prepare it, and its position at the start of your
programme of study. The assessment will be used to provide feedback on
your ability to write reports appropriate to the Knowledge & Information
Systems Management Programme.
