Adobe Photoshop Literacy Essay

Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing program that was developed and published by

Above Systems. It presently holds the leader position in all commercial bitmap and image

manipulation software. Everyone and anyone can use Photoshop, though at an expensive cost.

Photoshop averages between six- to nine hundred dollars depending on which package you

desire.

Thomas Knoll, a PhD student at the University of Michigan began writing a program to

display grayscale images on a monochrome display, in 1987. While creating this application his

brother took interest and influenced him to create a full image editing program. He took a

break from his regular studies and created this program. In late 1988, his brother and he

created a program called ImagePro that was later renamed as Photoshop.

Photoshop can be used for almost anything. From media editing, animation, authorizing

to personal pleasure, Photoshop can please almost every need you may have within the image

editing world. Photoshop has its own format ‘.psd’ and stores an image with support for most

imaging options available. Features involved within Adobe Photoshop include layers with

masks, color spaces, ICC profiles, transparency, text, alpha channels and spot colors, clipping

paths, and duotone settings. To find Photoshop you can look in any store including Walmart,

Target, Office Depot, Staples, etc.
