This handbook contains model listings for virtually all of the international vehicle manufacturers that market vehicles in the United States. It provides details of model offerings, VIN location and structure, and other label locations to assist in identifying a particular model. Vehicles included in this book are shown in alphabetical order by manufacturer. Specific questions should be directed to individual manufacturer representatives who are listed on page IV. AIAM members have always been leaders in advanced technology: In 1959, Volvo introduced 3-point seat belts. Volkswagen was the first company to produce passive seat belt restraint systems. Honda has been recognized for its technical prowess since its introduction of the CVCC engine in 1975 Porsche was the first automaker to introduce vehicles with dual airbags in 1987 and later the first to equip all cars worldwide with dualairbags. Volvo was the first company to produce Side Impact Air Bags. In 1994, Mazda introduced its new Millenia with a supercharged miller- cycle engine which gets both good performance and excellent fuel economy. Exceptional fuel economy and good performance are the hallmarks of a direct-injection passenger car diesel from VW. For 1996, Honda produced Civic models with a continuously variable transmission and one for California that meets the state's strict low emission vehicle standards. Volvo was a pioneer with the use of oxygen sensors and three-way catalysts for emission control back in the later '70s and along with many others of its European competitors had completely eliminated freon use in air conditioning systems by the 1993 model year. AIAM members have also consistently topped the ranking in EPA's fuel economy derby every year (some have been captive imports sold by the Big 3).
