THE SII DIPLOMA

While SIIM offers candidates a structured programme of units tailored to their career pathway, the SII’s traditional senior
practitioner qualification – the SII Diploma – offers candidates a free choice of units.

The Diploma is a highly regarded professional qualification. Whilst having no exact academic equivalent, it is pitched at
a Master’s degree level. Along with the SIIM Programme it is the Institute’s most senior qualifications, designed by
practitioners to test candidates’ ability to provide solutions to practical business problems. The exams reflect situations and
issues that practitioners will encounter and require candidates to apply their knowledge in order to answer case studies, write
reports and explain techniques and terms.

The Diploma typically takes between 18 months and two years to complete and requires candidates to pass any combination
three narrative papers, each lasting three hours. Options are:

• Bond and Fixed Interest Markets;

• Financial Derivatives;
• Fund Management;
• Global Operations Management;
• Interpretation of Financial Statements;
• Investment Analysis;
• Private Client Investment Advice and Management
• Regulation and Compliance.
