Sjögren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by dryness of the eyes and mouth. There are two types: primary, which occurs alone, and secondary, which occurs with another connective tissue disease like rheumatoid arthritis. Symptoms include dry mouth and eyes, difficulty swallowing and talking, dental cavities, enlarged salivary glands, sinus issues, respiratory infections, vaginal dryness, and skin rashes. Sjögren's syndrome results from chronic inflammation and destruction of the glands responsible for tear and saliva production, which can lead to a variety of related symptoms.
