The Flag of Uganda
Inside the white disk at the center of the flag is a red-crested
crane, which is the national symbol of Uganda. It was the
military badge of Ugandan soldiers under the United Kingdom.
The colors: black, red, and yellow, all symbolize something.
Black symbolizes the African people, yellow symbolizes sunshine
and vitality, and red stands for African brotherhood.
Short History of Uganda
In the late 1800s, Britain took control of Uganda and
grouped many different groups and tribes. The
differences between them caused many difficulties,
leaving Uganda’s government very unstable. When
Uganda got its independence from Britain in 1962, it
wasn’t long before a dictator, Amin, took control.
Between Amin and Obote, many lives were lost and
many rights were abused. However, in 1986, Yoweri
Museveni came into control and has helped economic
growth and Uganda’s stability. Currently, Uganda is still
struggling with things, including guerilla warfare.
