• FF: Compare and contrast convection and

conduction.

• EQ: How does heat transfer from one object

to another?

• HW: p. 162 in Science workbook

Law of Conservation of Energy
• Energy is neither created nor destroyed. It
only changes forms.

Convection
• Convection is the transfer of heat by currents in
fluids (liquids and gases)
• Particles with higher energy move from one
location to another carrying their heat with
them.
• Heat moves from warmer to cooler parts of the
liquid.
• Uneven heating causes currents in the air and
water.
Conduction
• Conduction involves objects in direct contact
• Transfer of energy happens when particles
collide in a substance or between two
substances in contact.
• All materials do not conduct heat equally
• Poor conductors are called insulators
• Energy moves from high to low temperature.
Radiation
• Radiation is the transfer of energy through
space without particles colliding or moving.
• Radiated energy warms an object when it is
absorbed
• Radiated heat moves from higher temp to
lower temp.
Poem
• Write a poem describing convection,
conduction and radiation. Make sure to
include all the details we discussed in class in
the poem.
