Learning- A never ending journey

How do you define “LEARNING”? Well, each of us might have numerous definitions. But, to sum it all
up and say it one complete definition, “Learning is a continuous process to receive the information
and knowledge through any of the stimulus which brings a relatively permanent change.”

We can never say that I have learnt everything that needs to learnt in the world because there’s
always something new to learn every day. There are new techniques, technologies, inventions,
discoveries, practices in every field of study and science that happen every single minute. We can
never reach a saturation point in the learning process. Willingness to learn is considered one of the
biggest positive strengths in a person. It is also a quality which the employers look for in prospective
employees because the world today is very competitive and ever-changing and everyone wants
their employees to be zealous enough to learn, adapt and practice new technologies and changes
that evolve in the industry and outside.

A small story to enunciate the meaning of true learning. Socrates, the Greek Athenian Philosopher
was found guilty of corrupting the youth of Athens and was sentenced to death by drinking a
mixture containing poison hemlock. He was locked in a cell with the other wrong doers, thieves and
murderers before his execution. On the night before his execution, Socrates heard a beautiful song
that a blind man was singing in the next cell. He loved the song so much that he went up to the blind
man and asked the blind man to teach the song to him. The Blind man laughed and said,” you are
going to be dead tomorrow, why do u want to learn this song?”. For which, the great philosopher
coolly replied, “My friend, I’m alive this very moment and nobody knows what will happen
tomorrow. And that does not stop me from learning this song. So please teach me this song.”The
blind man was dumbstruck and taught him the song with pleasure.

This story tells how the real spirit of learning. There’re no age limits for learning. There’re no
restrictions for learning. There’re no boundaries for learning. There’re no limits for learning.
Socrates said, “I only know that I know nothing”. What we know is just the size of a drop of the
ocean or a fistful of sand. There is a whole world of things to learn. Let us all keep our minds open,
keep learning and continue this beautiful journey of learning forever.
