“Harrowing Heart”

Halloween is close at hand

Weeping spirits ravage lands,
Setting foot upon our souls
Creating fright with relished droll.

One night a year, they scream with laughter

Being raised from ever after,
Coffins burst with reckless zeal
Searching for pure souls to steal.

But after midnight's bell doth toll

Releasing my captured soul,
Recoiling to that soily grave
Ending her dance and masquerade.

A haunting night that broke with morning

She came and went with little warning,
Sleep well my love, sleep well my dear
While my soul abides the living, waiting next year.
